Legal Term

Notice Period

सूचना अवधि (Soochna Avadhi)
Plain English Definition

The advance notice required before terminating a contract or leaving a job. Both parties must serve notice, and it should ideally be equal. Either party may pay salary/rent in lieu of notice to waive this period.

Real Indian Example

Your job offer says '90 days notice from employee, 30 days from employer.' That's unfair — you need 3 months to leave, but they can fire you in 1 month. Negotiate for equal notice (e.g., 60 days each).
