RERA (Real Estate Regulatory Authority)

रेरा (रियल एस्टेट नियामक प्राधिकरण)
Plain English Definition

A regulatory body under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016. Every state has its own RERA. All builders must register projects with RERA, and homebuyers can file complaints for delays, fraud, or defects. RERA has made the real estate sector significantly more transparent.

Real Indian Example

Your builder promised possession by June 2025 but hasn't delivered. You can file a complaint on your state's RERA website. RERA can order the builder to pay interest on your investment for every month of delay, or give a full refund with interest.
