Subrogation

प्रतिस्थापन (Pratisthapan)
Plain English Definition

When one party (usually an insurer) steps into the shoes of another to pursue a claim or recover costs. After paying your claim, the insurance company gets the right to sue the person who caused the damage, in your place.

Real Indian Example

Someone crashes into your parked car. Your insurance company pays for repairs under your policy. Through subrogation, the insurance company then sues the other driver to recover what they paid you.
