Intellectual Property (IP)

बौद्धिक संपदा (Bauddhik Sampada)
Plain English Definition

Legal rights over creations of the mind — inventions, designs, brand names, artistic works, software code. IP includes copyrights, trademarks, patents, and trade secrets. In employment contexts, work created during employment using company resources typically belongs to the company.

Real Indian Example

You're a developer. Your employment contract says 'all code written by you belongs to the company.' But you also build a personal app on weekends using your own laptop, unrelated to your job. Without a carve-out clause, the company might claim that app too.
